14 apartments at De Bouwing Geldermalsen

The location is in a park-like setting on the former bathing beach De Steenvliet in Geldermalsen. Nearby is the Bouwing, a white-plastered flour mill from 1848 that is still in operation.

The 14 apartments are housed in two residential buildings that form part of the urban development plan for the Steenvliet residential area. Da Vinci Real Estate has designed several building projects in this neighborhood, the architecture of which is coordinated to create a coherent picture.
Given the free location in the green and on the water, the design opts for an all-round orientation on the environment.
The buildings are slightly elevated by the partially underground basement with parking space which makes them seem to be coming loose from the surface. Together with the white facing brick, the round greenhouses and large balconies, a relaxed architectural image is created that matches the park-like environment.
This image is reinforced by the careful detailing and application of elements such as the double horizontal strips in the brickwork and the lines of the balcony railings.

On each floor there are two apartments of approximately 180 m2 and on the top floor a penthouse of approximately 240 m2 with three large roof terraces.
The penthouse has a slightly sloping hipped roof with accentuated chimneys and large overhangs; this gives the residential buildings a striking roof structure that also contributes to the relaxed architectural image.

In the elaboration of the construction plan, a great deal of attention was paid to careful, sustainable materialization and detailing at urban, architectural and landscape level.
This integration of the various disciplines has resulted in a high-quality design that meets the requirements for modern, “urban” living and that the buildings are naturally integrated into the scale and character of the environment.
